When I set a recording, for the next day, as a series timer, it fails to record and in the timer menu there is an 'S' for Series at the side of the program and to the right of this there is an exclamation mark and a sideways triangle (Same as a play symbol on a remote control).

I have just started to get an on-screen message stating "cannot schedule recording there is already a timer at the same time on this channel" even though no timer has been set. It disappears when OK is pressed but continually re-appears every 30 seconds. I have tried switching unit off & disconnecting from mains, hoping unit will reset but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Recordings keep failing. Sometimes when I record a programme, I get an error message and I lose the recording.

The unit has just frozen up. It keeps freezing and then shutting itself down.

my HDR5T01 stopped recording on the 31st December any answers as to why. As the library is by no means full

My box keeps saying NO SIGNAL. without the box my tv signal is at 98%. I have added a booster but still no luck

Getting a message . Cannot schedule a recording. There is a recording on this channel already

Picture keeps stuttering and is blocky and pixellated.

Why are some channels in the EPG highlighted in Royal blue - I have tried to get rid of this by reinstalling, but it persists with Channel 1 (BBC 1) and Ch 5. Any suggestions. I have read the instructions from cover to cover and cannot find any reference to this.

My box freezes when watching tv and when watching a recorded programme. It does not lose any of the programme as it just restarts from where it left off.
Also accessing the recording list takes a LONG time.
I did reformat the HDD when this first happened, and it eased the accessing the recording list issue for a while, but now just as bad as before.
I dont want to keep reformatting as it takes ages to re-input the schedules for programming.
Any suggestions?

My 3-year-old unit repeatedly turns itself off and demands a "first time install". I have found a way of getting it to work again without actually doing an install, but I want to know why it is doing this and how to prevent it. Unfortunately, as I have got it to work, the IT support service are not interested in diagnosing the problem, their only comment being that they do not recommend reformating. I assume this translates to "we work from a script and know nothing about the unit."
Does anyone have any experience of this?

I have two of these models and both prevent me from recording some radio channels. EPG is unavailable for these channels.

picture freeze in playback for a minute or two plays normaly

Instruction manual says how to delete series recording but this instrction not showing on screen .

EPG has defaulted to only showing radio programs. I can change it manually but it reverts the next time.

My box will not reformat after a power cut.

every time we change channel a message appears saying "an error has occurred with the current recording".we havent been able to record anything for a couple of weeks

WHEN TRYING TO OBTAIN LIBRARY MENU, MESSAGE ON SCREEN SAYS 'HARD DRIVE INITIALISATION FAILED - RECORDING AND PLAYBACK FUNCTIONS DISABLED'.DOES THAT MEAN THE HARD DRIVE IS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR AND CAN RECORDINGS BE RETRIEVED?

The unit has completely frozen, such that no functions can be operated from the remote and it cannot be powered on or off at the box or channels changed at the box. The receiver section works and reception is normal but it is stuck on one channel.

Solution 1: one of the many software faults, remove the offending timer setting ( will be at end of the timer list with blank details) and re-enter the timer

- I cleared out all my timer settings and then rebooted the box. This has resolved the problem for me. I hadn't cleared out completed series, which resulted in overloading the timer settings.

Solution 3: This worked for me:
Menu / Settings / Installation / First time installation then follow through instructions. You will lose any timers, but not your library. This should only be needed to be done the once.

Problem: Recordings keep failing. Sometimes when I record a programme, I get an error message and I lose the recording.

There are 0 comments on this problem.

Solution 1: Recordings fail for a number of reasons. If you schedule the recording and it records - but records the wrong thing - the box might be tuned to two different regions. Reset the channels and manually tune them if you suspect this to be the case.
If the unit is on a series record but has missed the programme, check the programme guide to see if future episodes are being recorded. It may have identified the programme as a different series for some reason, so set a series link on any future episodes that are not being recorded.

Other failed recordings can show a problem with the unit. One or two failed recordings do not necessarily mean that your unit has a fault - it could be due to a power cut or your box could have (unluckily!) frozen or crashed prior to the start of the programme.

However, if there are numerous failed recordings and it continues to occur even though you can watch TV OK, it sounds like a problem with the hard disk and this will need to be either repaired or replaced.

Problem: The unit has just frozen up. It keeps freezing and then shutting itself down.

Solution 1: It can be extremely frustrating when this happens. Most of the time, there isn't much you can do other than turn it off and then on again, at the mains if the power button isn't responding.

However, there are a few things you can check to help prevent it in the future. Number one is check how hot it is. Freezing can happen when the unit isn't properly ventilated or is in a hot place. Make sure all the vents are uncovered and there is nothing on top of it.
You might also want to check for system updates.
Finally, you might consider turning the unit off and then on again regularly to reboot it. Freezing often occurs when it has been running for a long time, so once a week or so you could try to reboot it by switching it off and on. If you don't want to do this yourself, you might consider buying a timer switch to do this for you at a time you know you won't be using the machine, e.g. 4AM.

There are 0 comments on this problem.

Solution 1: A condition exists that if you record half hour programs (standard definition)the index that identifies the programs becomes full before the full disk space is used on the 500Gb recorder. The 1 TB recorder is a waste of money and a disaster.

Problem: My box keeps saying NO SIGNAL. without the box my tv signal is at 98%. I have added a booster but still no luck

There are 0 comments on this problem.

Solution 1: I think far from needing a booster you need an attenuator to drop the signal strength. I had the same issue with the tv showing a strong signal and box saying no signal. Bought this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DQT00NO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Plug it between the box and the TVs input and adjust the input. I think the problem is the hitachi box is more sensitive than the TV and is actually overloaded and shutting down the input.

Solution 1: check the timer recordings list, it is possible for this to get corrupted and cause the problem. Delete the timer recordings list and re enter programs.

- Free view signals can not only be too weak they can also be too strong. I had seemingly very poor reception on this device but investigated based on the fact that the signal strength on the channels that were breaking up shown as high. I bought a variable attenuator and it now works fine. The box is designed for weak signals and in a good signal area the receiver gets swamped. The attenuator reduces the signal. See Amazon for details

Solution 1: Check for loose cables and check your signal strength.

Solution 1: The royal blue on the epg indicates there is alternative high definition content for the program available.
