This has happened twice to my machine. Receiver PCB has been replaced both times as the receiver board had failed. 2 out of 2 people found this solution helpful.
Problem: when I'm not using the player it turns itself on and off, and when you watch a bluray film halfway through the player turns off

Does your Samsung Blu Ray Player (BD-E8500) cycle on and off repeatedly?
Well, you are in luck: The problem is finally found out how to fix it. The issue is that the touch screen panel has failed, and thus causes the Blu Ray Player to cycle on and off.
(1) Unplug Samsung Blu Ray player; (2) Remove sidewalls and top cover;(four screws at the backside, slide cover 1cm backwards and klick the sides away.) (3) Remove front fascia; (8 times a click system 3 on top, 3 on bottom and 3 at the side) (4) Remove front touch screen board by rotating the top out first, then you will see a thin brownish ribbon CN2 attached to the center of the front panel to the bottom; (5) Disconnect brownish-colored ribbon CN2 from the rest of the system by pulling it straight out (the brownish ribbon runs up to the touch panel buttons)Isolate it (tape it to the paper codenumber plate on the front panel; (6) Re-assemble, leaving touch screen panel brownish ribbon disconnected from the rest of the system.
Unfortunately, you will now rely solely on the remote control as the touch screen panel on the front of the Blu Ray player will no longer work.
However, the upside is that your Blu Ray player will no longer cycle on and off.
Problem: My unit has just started showing an error message which says the capacity of the device is insufficient ensure more capacity and try again! I have deleted all recordings and scheduled recordings, have done a software update, tried to reset the system to factory settings but this will not work. Any ideas would be greatly appreciate.

This is an easy one. The hard drive does not recover the space from deleted videos. After a while you'll see something like 20 mg of 450gb remaining. In the settings there is a reformat hard drive option. This will get you back the full capacity and allow you to record again.

It can be extremely frustrating when this happens. Most of the time, there isn't much you can do other than turn it off and then on again, at the mains if the power button isn't responding.
However, there are a few things you can check to help prevent it in the future. Number one is check how hot it is. Freezing can happen when the unit isn't properly ventilated or is in a hot place. Make sure all the vents are uncovered and there is nothing on top of it. You might also want to check for system updates. Finally, you might consider turning the unit off and then on again regularly to reboot it. Freezing often occurs when it has been running for a long time, so once a week or so you could try to reboot it by switching it off and on. If you don't want to do this yourself, you might consider buying a timer switch to do this for you at a time you know you won't be using the machine, e.g. 4AM. 0 out of 0 people found this solution helpful.
- I get recordings that fail. It shows its recording when I check but will not play. When the recoding has finished the file shows a red circle with a red diagonal line running through it. This happens on an ad hoc basis on various channels. Has anyone have a solution?

Solution 1:
Recordings fail for a number of reasons. If you schedule the recording and it records - but records the wrong thing - the box might be tuned to two different regions. Reset the channels and manually tune them if you suspect this to be the case. If the unit is on a series record but has missed the programme, check the programme guide to see if future episodes are being recorded. It may have identified the programme as a different series for some reason, so set a series link on any future episodes that are not being recorded.
Other failed recordings can show a problem with the unit. One or two failed recordings do not necessarily mean that your unit has a fault - it could be due to a power cut or your box could have (unluckily!) frozen or crashed prior to the start of the programme.
However, if there are numerous failed recordings and it continues to occur even though you can watch TV OK, it sounds like a problem with the hard disk and this will need to be either repaired or replaced. 0 out of 0 people found this solution helpful.

Problem: set up to pre record a programme and just the last few days noticed it had not started recording so jumped in and started it manually. The last time this happened it would not let me go into it to set it recording. will not bring up tv guide or let me go onto hard drive or any of the other features. I have changed batteries. switched it off at the mains and rebooted it. Checked the remote and am sure it is sending a signel to the player but does nothing. it will let me change tv channels, turn on and off only.
Problem: BD-C8500 Freezes, and needs a reboot. Problem cause: CPU gets extremely hot when playing back HD content (fingers get burned touching the heatsink). Problem solved: Installed an Intel CPU fan to cool the chipset on the motherboard. It seems that SAMSUNG has made a bad cooling design in this unit.
Problem: My BD-E8500M had a software update last weekend and since then it keeps turning itself on and off within minutes it has been powered of for a day and still persists I disconnected HDMI and Network to make it standalone and the problem persists ? could it be the last firmware update or is it because it is two years old "planned Obsolecence maybe"
Problem: my bd8500m turns on the display says hello and then gets no further,it wont recognise its devices or produce a picture, but it had been perfect the previous night,,i suspect a pcb fault and have unplugged it for a few days as well as warming its boards with a hair dryer to no avail
