PVR and Hard Disk Recorder problems and solutions for the IceCrypt T2400

Problem: when trying to play back recordings I get this msg
" cannot play a file as external device is ntfs only possible when using fat32" was fine the last time I did it?

Solution 1: Turn the power off at the rear panel and wait for 5 mins, fixed mine ok.

The problem arose after I was trying to get an external USB device to be recognized, I think it confused the unit.

Problem: I have the Icecrypt T2400 1TB I keep getting a message the timer is full and unable to record anything I have also tried removing recordings to try and solve this problem to no avail
can anyone help

Solution 1: You need press button that says rec list, and remove any old timer recordings. EG series that have finished.

Problem: I just get the Verifying System Message on the Start up screen and it just sits there and won't boot up.....

Solution 1: I read somewhere, that i should try totally unplugging the unit, as switching off still leaves limited power in the unit, so unplugged it left it unplugged overnight, and when i plugged back the unit back in this morning, although I still got the System Verifying data message, after 20 minutes or so the unit came back to life, now working fine.

Problem: In the menu I can only access 'settings' or 'information' but no other sub-menus (such as 'installation' for auto scan). It just keeps flitting between the two options.

Solution 1: I found that I get this if the T2400 is recording to the HD or is playing any program off the HD. However when it is not playing or recoding then I seem to be able to see all the menus.

Problem: Says No Signal, done autoscan several times, finds 118 TV channels yet EPG is empty, then just seems to get stuck on the opening Icecrypt screen instead of going straight to a TV channel. Info button reveals I should be on BBC1. Everything is plugged in, TV not having a signal problem. Can still access HD with recordings still intact. Annoying now that my timer recordings have gone after the autoscans.

Solution 1: Unplugged again, this time overnight, still got stuck on start up screen. Could access menu items with no problems, autoscanned again fine, it just wouldn't go to the TV channels. Did a factory restore once sure I wasn't going to lose my recordings. Display on box itself then seemed to freeze on the word [restart] so I switched off again and got the manual out. Thought I'd try connecting via HDMI instead of SCART and now it's working fine. Will eventually try the other connection again but for now just happy it's working again so off to buy an HDMI splitter.

Problem: Has anyone changed the HDD on the T2400?

I've looked inside the box it is a WD Green drive easy to get out. Can i just get a new one from CPC and pop it in? or does it need some sort of special formatting for the firmware to see it?

I know once it is up and running I can reformat it.

Any help would be appreciated

Solution 1: Dear Martin,
I simply bought the 2GB WD Green drive from Amazon (£60) and slotted it into the T2400 box (connecting power lead and data lead). The T2400 started up straight away with no issues, but I made it re-formated the drive anyway before I used the machine.

So in answer to you question - no special formatting needed.

Problem: Picture keeps stuttering and is blocky and pixellated.

Problem: Recordings keep failing. Sometimes when I record a programme, I get an error message and I lose the recording.

Solution 1: Recordings fail for a number of reasons. If you schedule the recording and it records - but records the wrong thing - the box might be tuned to two different regions. Reset the channels and manually tune them if you suspect this to be the case.
If the unit is on a series record but has missed the programme, check the programme guide to see if future episodes are being recorded. It may have identified the programme as a different series for some reason, so set a series link on any future episodes that are not being recorded.

Other failed recordings can show a problem with the unit. One or two failed recordings do not necessarily mean that your unit has a fault - it could be due to a power cut or your box could have (unluckily!) frozen or crashed prior to the start of the programme.

However, if there are numerous failed recordings and it continues to occur even though you can watch TV OK, it sounds like a problem with the hard disk and this will need to be either repaired or replaced.

Problem: I have an Icecrypt T2400 with a 1Tb hard drive. It currently has 56 folders recorded but there are 3 folders which I can neither open nor delete. I know there is something recorded in the folders as, when I try to delete them, it says 'Folder is not empty'. Anybody have any ideas on how to open or delete them. Thanks.

Solution 1: I had this problem with 2 folders which would not open or delete. So I cleared all the existing other folders and the record list, then reformatted the hdd, presto all ok now. hope this works for you.

Problem: The unit has just frozen up. It keeps freezing and then shutting itself down.

Solution 1: It can be extremely frustrating when this happens. Most of the time, there isn't much you can do other than turn it off and then on again, at the mains if the power button isn't responding.

However, there are a few things you can check to help prevent it in the future. Number one is check how hot it is. Freezing can happen when the unit isn't properly ventilated or is in a hot place. Make sure all the vents are uncovered and there is nothing on top of it.
You might also want to check for system updates.
Finally, you might consider turning the unit off and then on again regularly to reboot it. Freezing often occurs when it has been running for a long time, so once a week or so you could try to reboot it by switching it off and on. If you don't want to do this yourself, you might consider buying a timer switch to do this for you at a time you know you won't be using the machine, e.g. 4AM.
