Problem: Recordings keep failing. Sometimes when I record a programme, I get an error message and I lose the recording.

Solution 1:
Recordings fail for a number of reasons. If you schedule the recording and it records - but records the wrong thing - the box might be tuned to two different regions. Reset the channels and manually tune them if you suspect this to be the case. If the unit is on a series record but has missed the programme, check the programme guide to see if future episodes are being recorded. It may have identified the programme as a different series for some reason, so set a series link on any future episodes that are not being recorded.
Other failed recordings can show a problem with the unit. One or two failed recordings do not necessarily mean that your unit has a fault - it could be due to a power cut or your box could have (unluckily!) frozen or crashed prior to the start of the programme.
However, if there are numerous failed recordings and it continues to occur even though you can watch TV OK, it sounds like a problem with the hard disk and this will need to be either repaired or replaced. 0 out of 0 people found this solution helpful.
Problem: Just tried to install the box for the first time and the display says 'Ft1' and the remote doesn't work nor is there any signal to the tv. Checked all leads, scary, aerial etc :(

I did a first time installation and the problem has stopped so far. It cancelled all my timers but kept all that I had already recorded. Hope this helps someone. 2 out of 2 people found this solution helpful.
- The new Hitachi 500GB HD Recorder has an Auto Standby after around 3 hours or less aand I strongly recommend to everyone that they press the menu button and go to configuration and disable the Auto Standby. You should also enable the receiver upgrade whist in the configuration menu. I also agree with the other comments that you should retune the box every 3 months or so and after that delete all the channels that you don't require via the channel list and scrolling to the bin to delete the unwanted channels.

It can be extremely frustrating when this happens. Most of the time, there isn't much you can do other than turn it off and then on again, at the mains if the power button isn't responding.
However, there are a few things you can check to help prevent it in the future. Number one is check how hot it is. Freezing can happen when the unit isn't properly ventilated or is in a hot place. Make sure all the vents are uncovered and there is nothing on top of it. You might also want to check for system updates. Finally, you might consider turning the unit off and then on again regularly to reboot it. Freezing often occurs when it has been running for a long time, so once a week or so you could try to reboot it by switching it off and on. If you don't want to do this yourself, you might consider buying a timer switch to do this for you at a time you know you won't be using the machine, e.g. 4AM. 0 out of 0 people found this solution helpful.

Problem: We have a model hdr505 it is about 4/5 years old and it has been fine up to a couple weeks ago and only when it is on BBC2 does it shut down for a couple of minuets then comes back on a different channel, (it does this constantly only on BBC2) very annoying. I have updated the scan but that hasn't helped. Hope you can help.
Problem: Picture keeps jumping and when turning on keeps saying "hard drive initialization failed recording and playback functions are disabled.please help.
Problem: Mine was set to record a 45 min prog. It did in 2min 59 sec bights with a space between. The recorder went off. The went to "Load", then "HDD", then "OOOO", then"OOO1" The TV lost scart and the got it back. This was starting 17-00.
Problem: My hitachi box keeps switching itself off when recording and when watching tv, Why is this, it's just started to do this, it was fine at first, it's 4years old!
Problem: Our box works fine and for no reason will reboot and resume sometimes after the 'hdd' error displayed and other times no message. Is there any other aspect to consider other than good ventilation? I often do a channel scan and reboot. Becoming a real problem - any suggestions please
Problem: I have had many problems with my unit since I owned it such as it dont respond to remotes commands as soon as I press any buttons to any functions but it will do the commands about 20-30 seconds later.I also have to delete any recoded programs one at at time and it takes around a minute per program and it takes same amount of time to record any programs. Now I was watching a recorded movie and the whole unit has shut down with no indication on the digital display except for a very faint single light (a single spot size) showing that power is goin into the unit.I have checked all wires/leads and scart cables and found no problems so I turned unit off by mains and about an hour later I turned it on and the display is just the same faint light and nothin more lights up on display.I can hear thasomething is moving inside so I cant find what the problem is.it was a gift from megrandmother who gave it to me for my birthday in july so it has more meaning to me whichi dont want it to be useless after just six months and I know she paid nearly a £145 that is a lot more expensive than most other brands of similar units.as it was a gift I have not been able to find the guarantee paperwork as I cant ask my grandmother where she put them before she passed away.I hope someone can help me to solve the issues I have had with this product as I am disabled and watch tv often as I cant go out of house unless I have to and also I dont work so have little income to be able to replace it.I would be so pleased to be able to fix my digital freeview + recorder with hundreds of hours programs saved in its library. Many thanks to any help given
