Recordings keep failing. Sometimes when I record a programme, I get an error message and I lose the recording.


I installed the Manhattan box and everything worked fine.The next day when I switched on the tv and box,I got a no signal message.I went to menu and found that I had to go through the installation again.This worked and everything was fine.However the same thing happens EVERY time I switch off


The sound level doesn't stay the same. I can be watching a TV program and switch to a recording and the sound level decreases or increases ( sometimes considerably) The sound level bar goes up 3 or 4 points at a time. I have to control the sound via the TV remote. The TV sound is consistent. Sometimes the unit re-boots and the sound level reduces so the I have to increase both TV and box sound levels up high to hear any sound.


The unit has just frozen up. It keeps freezing and then shutting itself down.

I have a message come up that " playback has failed " on all of the recordings and the " library " button on the remote has ceased to bring up the recordings list although I can still access this via the menu drop-down list.
Is this a hard-drive failure?

Will not come out of stanby tried unplugging overnight blue indicator first then goes red as normal when starting up but no response from RC/ or front panel, however if the on - off sw on front panel is held on while plugging in to mains wait around 20 secs like that keeping the sw depessed the unit starts up and runs all day, however if left on standby overnight the same problem occurs. Any ideas guys?

Hey.. So I can't change change anymore. I have to press Guild I select the channel from there. There's plenty of room on the hard drive and all the other buttons work. Any ideas,??


I was told by Manhattan that I had to download new updated software, I did as instructed and left it to run, when I came back to it the blue light was on and frozen. I switched it off at the mains but this did not have an effect on the problem. the red light flashes on about every 20 odd seconds... any advice please?

Solution 1: Recordings fail for a number of reasons. If you schedule the recording and it records - but records the wrong thing - the box might be tuned to two different regions. Reset the channels and manually tune them if you suspect this to be the case.
If the unit is on a series record but has missed the programme, check the programme guide to see if future episodes are being recorded. It may have identified the programme as a different series for some reason, so set a series link on any future episodes that are not being recorded.

Other failed recordings can show a problem with the unit. One or two failed recordings do not necessarily mean that your unit has a fault - it could be due to a power cut or your box could have (unluckily!) frozen or crashed prior to the start of the programme.

However, if there are numerous failed recordings and it continues to occur even though you can watch TV OK, it sounds like a problem with the hard disk and this will need to be either repaired or replaced.

I have had exactly the same problem with my Box purchased end july 2014...and the replacement from the supplier was exactly the same.
To Be fair, the Tech People at Manhattan have talked me through some diagnostics...as they suspected problems with the Dish signal strength & Quality...this has since been found to be satisfactory.
Manhattan are now arranging for a Replacement item.

Can I ask where you purchased your Boxes...mine came from an amazon supplier (LWI Satellite)...Maybe he unknowingly has a faulty batch?

Solution 1: Hiya,the same thing happens with mine.I simply never switch it off.I have had it since 4th June this year and so far doing this has not caused a problem.

Solution 1: This was a known problem and solved by a software update last year, update the SW to the latest and that should sort the problem

- Had the same problem. Manhattan had me download and install new software via USB and I haven't had the problem since. I've now got a new set of problems ( see "sound level problems)

Solution 1: It can be extremely frustrating when this happens. Most of the time, there isn't much you can do other than turn it off and then on again, at the mains if the power button isn't responding.

However, there are a few things you can check to help prevent it in the future. Number one is check how hot it is. Freezing can happen when the unit isn't properly ventilated or is in a hot place. Make sure all the vents are uncovered and there is nothing on top of it.
You might also want to check for system updates.
Finally, you might consider turning the unit off and then on again regularly to reboot it. Freezing often occurs when it has been running for a long time, so once a week or so you could try to reboot it by switching it off and on. If you don't want to do this yourself, you might consider buying a timer switch to do this for you at a time you know you won't be using the machine, e.g. 4AM.

Solution 1: I just had this exact problem. Sequence of events - had just watched a 1/2 hr recording, deleted it, went to go to next programme in library to watch and message appeared "playback has failed". Exited, tried again, LIB button on remote wouldn't bring library recordings up, I went to menu and same for me I was able to access my library but still not playback and same 'failed' message appeared.
Wondered what I'd done wrong. . .

After mild panic I turned everything off meaning TV at button and Manhattan at button and both off at the plug socket. Left it for 2 minutes, turned all back on, now back to normal all good.

Solution 1: Hi guys, been leaving the recorder unplugged overnight and starting it up in the same way by perhaps forcing it to boot in the way described in my problem as mentioned, yesterday a new problem, could not change channels using the guide and very slow searching but managed ok although indicated channel being recorded ( bbc3 ) doing that ok but actually viewing itv1 lol,
Anyway left it on standby overnight and all seems well this morning.
Hopefully the thing likes to be plugged into the mains constantly never occasionally unplugged fingers crossed.

- Picture can appear block due to strength of signal especially in bad weather. Try changing channel usually BBC have strongest signal so try this Furst.
