The unit has just frozen up. It keeps freezing and then shutting itself down.


Recordings keep failing. Sometimes when I record a programme, I get an error message and I lose the recording.


when trying to programme tv code the blue light does not flash after entering each digit therefore does not appear to work


I record a programme from the programme guide but quite often the last bit of the recording is cut off. I have checked the clock on the tv and programme guide and this is correct. This is most annoying and I cannot see that I can extend the recording manually. Can anyone please help. Thanks.

Remote not connecting to HDT 610R unit, Remote works with tv every time (used tv codes) but you have to press buttons multiple times to get it to work with the box! p.s I have replaced remote battery.


Have had my machine for some time Never had problems, but all of a sudden, when I am recording a prog. now The Duration of the prog. is showing the wrong duration ( e.g. 0:00:00 when it should be e.g. 1:05:55)
I can watch the recording which seems ok until I try fast forwarding (through add break eg.) when it then jumps to the end of the prog. and cuts off.
Please help as this is so frustrating

Having mistakenly 'locked in' a couple of recorded programmes, I tried to 'unlock' them only to find that to do so I need to know my HDT-610R Code. I do not know this code, so how do I find out what it is? (NOTE. I have tried every one of the possible codes for the TV, but apparently that is not the Code I need.)


I would like to export recorded programs via the USB port. This was part of the reason for buying it.
I have connected an external hard disk and also a 8gb memory card in a card reader both with USB cable connection.
On screen it said that a USB drive was detected but that it was unable to mount for either units.
Has anyone successfully connected a USB drive and if so, what was it? Was it specially formatted maybe? Pete


Some recordings on different channels show a very short duration (typically 20 seconds for a 60 minute programme). This causes any forward scanning to fail - although the whole programme has been recorded and will play normal speed.

gone to replay a recorded program and the tv screen just goes green what could be the problem please


When I try to play a recording or watch live TV I'm getting the picture obliterated by white noise accompanied by load crackles. The problem doesn't happen until the thing has booted up. I just wonder if a bypass capacitor has boiled its gel...

hard drive problem. cannot get into my library, cannot pick any programmes for recording.
window appears informing me of a hard drive problem needs to be resolved. I have tried all three options suggested in this window, no cure.has anybody have any ideas, thank you.....Dave


Does anyone have a copy of the latest version of software. I do like this PVR but if I can't get an update I might have to find another PVR. I will of course pay for any costs involved.

Some recordings are "broken" and cannot be exported to a flash drive. A red icon appears next to them. Can these be fixed?


The box will randomly shut itself down just after 7 o'clock at night, either 7.15pm or 7.45pm, am i missing some kind of timer operation somewhere ??


I have a problem that when I try and record a red line comes down the guide box at the time it is when I want to record - when I try and record and book a programme it comes up with too many timers and I cannot record. Even though I have run down every channel and I have not booked a recording? Any help would be great as I have rang the helpline and there is a pre recorded message saying they no longer have a helpline!

Solution 1: It can be extremely frustrating when this happens. Most of the time, there isn't much you can do other than turn it off and then on again, at the mains if the power button isn't responding.

However, there are a few things you can check to help prevent it in the future. Number one is check how hot it is. Freezing can happen when the unit isn't properly ventilated or is in a hot place. Make sure all the vents are uncovered and there is nothing on top of it.
You might also want to check for system updates.
Finally, you might consider turning the unit off and then on again regularly to reboot it. Freezing often occurs when it has been running for a long time, so once a week or so you could try to reboot it by switching it off and on. If you don't want to do this yourself, you might consider buying a timer switch to do this for you at a time you know you won't be using the machine, e.g. 4AM.

Problem: Recordings keep failing. Sometimes when I record a programme, I get an error message and I lose the recording.

Solution 1: Recordings fail for a number of reasons. If you schedule the recording and it records - but records the wrong thing - the box might be tuned to two different regions. Reset the channels and manually tune them if you suspect this to be the case.
If the unit is on a series record but has missed the programme, check the programme guide to see if future episodes are being recorded. It may have identified the programme as a different series for some reason, so set a series link on any future episodes that are not being recorded.

Other failed recordings can show a problem with the unit. One or two failed recordings do not necessarily mean that your unit has a fault - it could be due to a power cut or your box could have (unluckily!) frozen or crashed prior to the start of the programme.

However, if there are numerous failed recordings and it continues to occur even though you can watch TV OK, it sounds like a problem with the hard disk and this will need to be either repaired or replaced.

Solution 1: I've just got the box and struggled in the same way. Then I realised that I was looking at the blue light on the box instead of the blue light on the remote. Surely nobody else would make the same mistake!

Solution 2: Go into menu,settings,tv/audio/library setup,library setup, recording setup, recording start, then switch from auto to timed then you can add to the beginning and end of future recordings.

- Same problem but no ethernet cable connected. In the trade it is known as "re-cycling the power" i.e. I took the batteries out left them out for a couple of days put them back and remote worked fine. Couple of hours should do it.

Solution 1: Try removing the ethernet cable. This cured my remote problem and even speeded up the whole operation of the box.

- I also have exactly this problem and am yet to find a solution for it although I note that for me this problem only occurs with HD channels - non HD channels work as normal.

I wish someone could come up with a solution.
My recorder is still under extended warranty. I don't know whether to return it to Currys for a replacement and lose all my recordings, or persevere with it.
As other users, I can watch recordings, but not skip ads. I can fast forward at 2X, but no faster.
I have tried exporting recordings to an external hard drive, but the EchoStar comes up with a message "unable to mount usb device". It also says the HD recordings cannot be exported, so not much use really, as most recordings are in HD.

- This problem seems to have coincided with the clocks going forward on the 27th March 2016. There are no dates attached to these comments so not sure if other people have experienced it at the same time.

This is really annoying! I record so I don't have to watch ads. Now am forced to. Please help!

- The problem of some HD recordings showing incorrect programme length (BBC 4 does not seem to be affected) started when the broadcasters made some technical changes to the HD transmissions. Some TV's have intermittent sound due to these changes. It needs a software update by EchoStar to fix the problems. However it looks like they have abandoned all software support for the HDT 610R. The support part of their web site has gone!

Solution 1: I have the same problem, and it started (as another contributor commented ) whenthere was a technical change to the transmission signal. This needs a software update to rectify the problem, but it seems nothing is forthcoming .
Although a recorded programme length of say half an hour might be displayed as just a few seconds, the whole programme is in fact there. Agressive fast forwarding or jumping to skip the ads will deliver you to the beginning of the recording again, but careful fast forwarding at times 2, still works ok..... just takes longer to get through the pesky ads. Dont even think about pausing, as this makes a real mess.
This all happened at a time when Maplins were still selling this unit, and I was really pleased with this recorder before this happened. Poor show by Echostar!

Solution 1: The unit requires a FAT 32 formatted USB device - that said it is picky and the only device I have been able to export on is an old 8GB pen drive. Note that HD recordings cannot be exported due to copyright protection.

Solution 1: This seems to be a problem with the 610R or its programing, and I have seen this problem listed on several different web sites. Some say its only on HD channels, but I get it on both, others seem to think an upgrade in 2016 around the time the clocks went forward caused it. Your guess is as good as mine.
If you only fast forward up to TIMES 4 The jumping to the end etc. does not occure.

Question does any one know where to get the upgrades seems Echostar opted out of that some time ago?
