PVR and Hard Disk Recorder problems and solutions for the Toshiba RDXV60 3-in-1

Problem: Recordings keep failing. Sometimes when I record a programme, I get an error message and I lose the recording.

Solution 1: Recordings fail for a number of reasons. If you schedule the recording and it records - but records the wrong thing - the box might be tuned to two different regions. Reset the channels and manually tune them if you suspect this to be the case.
If the unit is on a series record but has missed the programme, check the programme guide to see if future episodes are being recorded. It may have identified the programme as a different series for some reason, so set a series link on any future episodes that are not being recorded.

Other failed recordings can show a problem with the unit. One or two failed recordings do not necessarily mean that your unit has a fault - it could be due to a power cut or your box could have (unluckily!) frozen or crashed prior to the start of the programme.

However, if there are numerous failed recordings and it continues to occur even though you can watch TV OK, it sounds like a problem with the hard disk and this will need to be either repaired or replaced.

Problem: Picture keeps stuttering and is blocky and pixellated.

Problem: Just bought refurbished RDXV60B. Scart connections to TV and SKYHD+. No TV aerial. Can play back pre-recorded DVD and video and watch TV through AV1 which suggests connections okay. However no picture or sound when playing back recordings (both to HDD & DVD).

Solution 1: Apologies. OAP ready for the scrapyard has now worked out Input source for SKY box is AV2.

Problem (of one's own ignorance) resolved!

Problem: The unit has just frozen up. It keeps freezing and then shutting itself down.

Solution 1: It can be extremely frustrating when this happens. Most of the time, there isn't much you can do other than turn it off and then on again, at the mains if the power button isn't responding.

However, there are a few things you can check to help prevent it in the future. Number one is check how hot it is. Freezing can happen when the unit isn't properly ventilated or is in a hot place. Make sure all the vents are uncovered and there is nothing on top of it.
You might also want to check for system updates.
Finally, you might consider turning the unit off and then on again regularly to reboot it. Freezing often occurs when it has been running for a long time, so once a week or so you could try to reboot it by switching it off and on. If you don't want to do this yourself, you might consider buying a timer switch to do this for you at a time you know you won't be using the machine, e.g. 4AM.

Problem: will not switch on completely dead

Solution 1: COMMON FAULT REQS NEW INTERNAL FUSE AND POWER TRANSISTOR REPLACED ON POWER SUPPLY.
ASSO CHECK DRIVE TRANSISTOR IS GOOD BEFORE APPLY MAINS OR WILL FAIL AGAIN this is not an expensive fix labour around £40.oo parts around £6.
mine has failed too .so will only cost me £4 to sort

Problem: My recorder began to record from a pre-set timing but cancelled a few seconds into the recording, switching from the channel signal to AV1, mirroring the channel selected on the TV set. It is now locked into AV 1 setting and the remote control will not switch source back to its original setting. I can now only record a channel if it is set on the main to set and will not respond to the channel select keys on the remote control.

Solution 1: Ours had the same problem. Ridiculously, the solution (FOR US) was to eject the Video Tape, Eject the DVD in the unit. Turn the unit off at the mains. Restart.

Problem: The vcr only runs for a few second and shuts down giving a message on tv "saving settings " and then powers the whole machine down

Solution 1: This is common with these Funai built VCR decks, first you need to clean the Mode switch , which is under VCR deck ,so it's a stripe down of top off, HDD removal disconnect all connections to the large PCB that the VCR sits on , than remove VCR which will remain attached (there's 2 screws that hold deck to PCB underneath,carefully remove them 1 is hidden under a ribbon cable.Pop top off mode switch clean with switch cleaner and cotton bud or simlar also wipe the clear LED (ir sensor)while you can get to it, resemble VCR onto board makeing sure the peg on mode switch located back into hole on the cam gear, now remove the clear plastic bit that sticks up in the middle of the deck (held in by 1 screw) and give it a wipe over, reasemble reconnect everything put top on before inserting a cassette (light affects sensors that you have just cleaned)
This as fixed this problem times for me on different machines that have these decks fitted.
