Problem: The unit has just frozen up. It keeps freezing and then shutting itself down.

It can be extremely frustrating when this happens. Most of the time, there isn't much you can do other than turn it off and then on again, at the mains if the power button isn't responding.
However, there are a few things you can check to help prevent it in the future. Number one is check how hot it is. Freezing can happen when the unit isn't properly ventilated or is in a hot place. Make sure all the vents are uncovered and there is nothing on top of it. You might also want to check for system updates. Finally, you might consider turning the unit off and then on again regularly to reboot it. Freezing often occurs when it has been running for a long time, so once a week or so you could try to reboot it by switching it off and on. If you don't want to do this yourself, you might consider buying a timer switch to do this for you at a time you know you won't be using the machine, e.g. 4AM. 0 out of 0 people found this solution helpful.
Problem: Recordings keep failing. Sometimes when I record a programme, I get an error message and I lose the recording.

Solution 1:
Recordings fail for a number of reasons. If you schedule the recording and it records - but records the wrong thing - the box might be tuned to two different regions. Reset the channels and manually tune them if you suspect this to be the case. If the unit is on a series record but has missed the programme, check the programme guide to see if future episodes are being recorded. It may have identified the programme as a different series for some reason, so set a series link on any future episodes that are not being recorded.
Other failed recordings can show a problem with the unit. One or two failed recordings do not necessarily mean that your unit has a fault - it could be due to a power cut or your box could have (unluckily!) frozen or crashed prior to the start of the programme.
However, if there are numerous failed recordings and it continues to occur even though you can watch TV OK, it sounds like a problem with the hard disk and this will need to be either repaired or replaced. 0 out of 0 people found this solution helpful.
- Check that the fan is working and that the back plate is not getting hot. If it is not working you may have cooked the motherboard. I have had two Humax failures, over a few years, due to this problem. If you are lucky just replacing a faulty fan will sort the problem. You will also have to do a disk format to get rid of corrupt files You might also need to do a factory reset and then go through all your setup options again.

Problem: HDR-FOXT2 This has latest firmware, problem is when been on for a while, sometimes 15mins up to 2hours it wont accept commands from remote or on unit itself, and no picture on tv, nor sound. Will come back on ok after turning power off for 30secs, any ideas? P.s. does have a blue ray player stood on top of it.
Problem: My Humax shut down and now will not power up again. Power supply plug and fuse are good. HDD fan does not run and no red Stby light on front panel push switch. Any suggestions.
Problem: Recordings randomly fail 'unable to track programme' Also recordings stop randomly half way through the programme. Sometimes at switch on there is 'no signal' and one has to switch off and back on again to get the tuner to work.
Problem: I have been on holiday and on my return the recorder picture has frozen. It will not switch off from the main plug! It will not work at all from the handset. How can I switch off and reboot?
Problem: I just fixed the constant rebooting.. countdown problem. I also lost the use of the HDMI port, only the SCART output worked. No special firmware or tools needed. Switch off the unit with the switch on the back and hold down the vol up, vol dn, Chnl up, and chnl dn. Switch box on. This will factory reset the box and the word -WIZARD- will be displayed on the front panel. You then need to do a scan and all will be fixed. Your recording schedule will be zeroed out but any custom firmware and logs will remain. I think the problem was due to do with a bad epg download. Connect to your box and load a backup of the schedule.
