PVR and Hard Disk Recorder problems and solutions for the Bush 500GB Freeview Recorder DTR

Problem: Recordings keep failing. Sometimes when I record a programme, I get an error message and I lose the recording.

Solution 1: Recordings fail for a number of reasons. If you schedule the recording and it records - but records the wrong thing - the box might be tuned to two different regions. Reset the channels and manually tune them if you suspect this to be the case.
If the unit is on a series record but has missed the programme, check the programme guide to see if future episodes are being recorded. It may have identified the programme as a different series for some reason, so set a series link on any future episodes that are not being recorded.

Other failed recordings can show a problem with the unit. One or two failed recordings do not necessarily mean that your unit has a fault - it could be due to a power cut or your box could have (unluckily!) frozen or crashed prior to the start of the programme.

However, if there are numerous failed recordings and it continues to occur even though you can watch TV OK, it sounds like a problem with the hard disk and this will need to be either repaired or replaced.

Problem: When a recording is ready to record whilst watching another channel I get a message saying "a recording is starting on another channel, it is not possible to proceed on this channel" (showing a box to either proceed or cancel). It then automatically goes to the channel that is being recorded. I then have to switch back over to the channel I was originally watching. Has anyone any idea what is wrong?.

Solution 1: Is your recorder twin or single tuner? From twin tuner recorders I've had previously its always been possible to either record one channel whilst watching another, or to record two channels whilst watching a pre-recorded programme in your library. Is your recorder still recording the desired channel?

0 out of 0 people found this solution helpful. Solution 3: This may well be down to the actual channels, or more exactly, the multiplex that they're on. It looks as if you can record another channel without any error message if they are on the same multiplex. If they are on a different multiplex, it looks as if it has to use the second tuner and switches the TV to that one. You can still switch back OK.

This is a complete pain in the butt. Maybe not a fault, but a design flaw.

Problem: Picture keeps stuttering and is blocky and pixellated.

Problem: My problem is with paused programme viewing. When I have paused a programme and start to watch it again the recorder is not allowing me to watch that programme for long before it switched over to live TV. There is no recordings cutting in at the time, it just goes to the channel it was on before and usually the programme I had paused has finished, meaning I've missed the last part of it. It matters not whether the programme has been paused for only a few minutes or for a lot longer, it happens anyway and is driving me crackers! Has anyone else had this problem and/or can offer up any advice as to how I can stop this from happening please? TIA.

Solution 1: You have to go to set up in your menu and then click recordings and you will see recording configuration. You can change the timeshift from 10 minutes to 2 hours. I guess yours is set at 10 mins.

Problem: If I'm recording onto or two recordings and switch machine on it shuts down and goes in to a full HDD reset ???

Solution 1: Same problem and followed another's tip and went into configuration and went out of low power setting and this solved it

Problem: The unit has just frozen up. It keeps freezing and then shutting itself down.

Solution 1: It can be extremely frustrating when this happens. Most of the time, there isn't much you can do other than turn it off and then on again, at the mains if the power button isn't responding.

However, there are a few things you can check to help prevent it in the future. Number one is check how hot it is. Freezing can happen when the unit isn't properly ventilated or is in a hot place. Make sure all the vents are uncovered and there is nothing on top of it.
You might also want to check for system updates.
Finally, you might consider turning the unit off and then on again regularly to reboot it. Freezing often occurs when it has been running for a long time, so once a week or so you could try to reboot it by switching it off and on. If you don't want to do this yourself, you might consider buying a timer switch to do this for you at a time you know you won't be using the machine, e.g. 4AM.

Problem: my disk space keeps showing close 100%. i've deleted a number of programmes/films, but i don't seem to be getting much memory space back?

Solution 1: Perform an auto scan retune or even a first time install. This usually re sets the disc space.
it also preserves your recordings.. Worked for me.

Problem: even if I delete all recordings and timers I cannot retrieve more than about 10% of the memory is there any way to clear it??

Solution 1: Hi, I had this problem also. Found by accident that if you do a return. - auto or first time,
it frees up the space.
Don't know why, but it worked. Took me a year before I stumbled on to this.

Problem: Can’t switch it on ! The remote has no effect - batteries are new.

Solution 1: Hi, I had this problem from new. Try these.
1 point remote at box and hold down power button for 10-20 seconds. Then release and wait.
Try it several times, but wait for init message or 4 dashes.
Also try for longer time if no success.
2. Press power button on front of unit. It should flash init in about 1 minute. Then wait for
startup. This could take several minutes.
