PVR and Hard Disk Recorder problems and solutions for the Hitachi HDR325 320gb Freeview Recorder

Problem: Recordings keep failing. Sometimes when I record a programme, I get an error message and I lose the recording.

Solution 1: Recordings fail for a number of reasons. If you schedule the recording and it records - but records the wrong thing - the box might be tuned to two different regions. Reset the channels and manually tune them if you suspect this to be the case.
If the unit is on a series record but has missed the programme, check the programme guide to see if future episodes are being recorded. It may have identified the programme as a different series for some reason, so set a series link on any future episodes that are not being recorded.

Other failed recordings can show a problem with the unit. One or two failed recordings do not necessarily mean that your unit has a fault - it could be due to a power cut or your box could have (unluckily!) frozen or crashed prior to the start of the programme.

However, if there are numerous failed recordings and it continues to occur even though you can watch TV OK, it sounds like a problem with the hard disk and this will need to be either repaired or replaced.

Problem: color picture on recorder is green cant find out why

Solution 1: Not sure about the HDR325, but on the HDR505 I had to change the 'TV out' from RGB to CVBS. On that model I found this in Menu/Setup & Retune/Configuration. Hope that helps.

Problem: when I record a programme it tends to stop recording before the programme has finished

Solution 1: yes this can be very frustrating and annoying. this happens to me a lot. i can only suggest where possible you also record the programme that follows-that way you wont miss the ending.not sure why the set does not work correctly

Problem: The unit has just frozen up. It keeps freezing and then shutting itself down.

Solution 1: It can be extremely frustrating when this happens. Most of the time, there isn't much you can do other than turn it off and then on again, at the mains if the power button isn't responding.

However, there are a few things you can check to help prevent it in the future. Number one is check how hot it is. Freezing can happen when the unit isn't properly ventilated or is in a hot place. Make sure all the vents are uncovered and there is nothing on top of it.
You might also want to check for system updates.
Finally, you might consider turning the unit off and then on again regularly to reboot it. Freezing often occurs when it has been running for a long time, so once a week or so you could try to reboot it by switching it off and on. If you don't want to do this yourself, you might consider buying a timer switch to do this for you at a time you know you won't be using the machine, e.g. 4AM.

Problem: Picture keeps stuttering and is blocky and pixellated.

Problem: Hitatchi frreview recorder occasional fault- loud 'pop' through tv speaker as it turns itself off and re-boots when i try to select a channel, when the recorder is turned on, when trying to play back a recording- indeed- at any odd moment !

Solution 1: TRY REDUCING THE NUMBER OF CHANNELS ON YHE CHANNEL LIST, IT WORKED FOR ME.

Problem: set often shuts down when recording a programme if i try to select library option or
teletext on bbc1/2. often teletext not obtainable.

Solution 1: when I watch bbc1 on my recordable box it switches itself of and says hdd I have to wait until it stops flashing then switch it of at the wall and wait for it to reload it only does this on bbc channnels

Problem: unit keeps cutting out several times daily and then tv goes off.

Solution 1: You should try entering settings and switching automatic lower power shutdown to "off" this may well help then reboot

Problem: The unit is always showing all "0" on display. The on/off button only switces "on". Have replaced all batteries and scar lead. T.v. repair man tried but failed to repair. Any idea please?

Solution 1: I KEEP GETING THE FLAG SAYING I HAVE TWO PROGRAMMES ON ABUT I HAVE NOT ALL I KEEP DOING IS RETUNING THE CHANNELS WHICH HAS STOPPED WORKING SO I HAVE STARTED FROM BEGINNING AND LOST ALL MY RECORDINGS THIS NOW DOES NOT WORK SO I HAVE FORMATTED THE DISC WISH ME LUCK FELLAS

Problem: My freeview recorder just switches everything off for about 5 mns every 3 mns. The screen goes blank then Hdd comes on the screen as it reboots. It will then be fine for 5-6mns then go off again.

Solution 1: Mine does the very same thing. Very annoying
